This week is the Earth science week,
which is organized by the American Geosciences Institute since 1998 to help the
public understand and appreciate the Earth sciences.
Traditionally is the
second full week of October. The Earth Science week encourages the
understanding and promotion of Earth sciences at local, state, national and
international levels.
Earth science week has as objectives:

To engage students in
discovering the Earth sciences.
·
To remind people that
Earth science is all around us.
·
To encourage Earth
stewardship through understanding.
·
To motivate
geoscientists to share their knowledge and enthusiasm about the Earth.
In this week diverse events and contests are organized, and
they are sponsored by by society members, universities, private and public
schools, geological surveys, parks, museums, etc. Some of these contests are
focused on photography, visual arts and essays.
